Louisville, KY – February 25, 2025 – GE Appliances, a Haier company, today announced that ABB, a global technology leader in electrification, will join its expanding EcoBalance™ ecosystem of partnerships. EcoBalance combines GE Appliances' SmartHQ® consumer app with innovative hardware and energy management technologies from industry leaders, creating a comprehensive solution for builders and homeowners seeking energy-efficient homes.  The integration with ABB's ReliaHome™ Smart Panel will enhance SmartHQ's energy monitoring capabilities, giving consumers complete visibility into their home's energy usage through a single, familiar interface. This integration is expected to be completed in the second half of the year.

According to the U.S. Department of Energy, heating and cooling account for about 47% of a home's energy use, while water heating represents another 14%, and major appliances consume approximately 13% of household energy. By integrating partners like ABB into the EcoBalance ecosystem, GE Appliances is simplifying the process of building and managing energy-efficient homes through a single, intuitive platform.

"One of the biggest barriers to home energy management is that systems are typically fragmented and difficult to integrate," said Shawn Stover, vice president SmartHome and Energy Solutions at GE Appliances. "By partnering with ABB, we're creating a seamless solution that gives builders and homeowners the tools they need to construct and maintain more energy-efficient, climate-resilient homes. By combining our connected appliances, HVAC systems, and water heaters with ABB’s sophisticated energy monitoring capabilities, consumers gain complete visibility into their home’s energy consumption, enabling significant cost savings and supporting their journey toward energy efficiency."

The ReliaHome™ Smart Panel enhances standard circuit breaker panels by adding functionalities such as measurement and remote-control capabilities.  Coupled with its Panel Guard algorithm, it helps avoid the need for service or panel upgrades.  Through GE Appliances' SmartHQ® app, homeowners already enjoy comprehensive control of their connected appliances. The integration with ABB’s ReliaHome Smart Panel will enhance SmartHQ’s capabilities by adding detailed energy monitoring information of any device connected to their electrical panel such as solar panels, batteries, and EV chargers.

“Integrating ABB’s ReliaHome Smart Panel into GE Appliances’ EcoBalance ecosystem greatly enhances homeowners’ access to energy insights, empowering them to make more informed decisions,” said Adam Mease, Senior Vice President of Smart Buildings at ABB. “Moreover, this interoperability helps avoid costly service and panel upgrades when adding large electrical appliances, making it simpler to build and retrofit energy-efficient homes.”

GE Appliances' EcoBalance ecosystem includes:

  • Connected residential HVAC solutions featuring the latest heat pump technology.
  • The all-new GE Profile™ GEOSPRING™ Smart Hybrid Heat Pump Water Heater, the most advanced heat pump water heater in the industry[1], with demand response capabilities for utility savings.
  • A selection of ENERGY STAR® appliances including ranges, refrigerators and the GE Profile™ UltraFast Combo. The latest iteration of the award-winning[2] washer and dryer combo was engineered with a simplified design and streamlined features to further meet consumers’ needs, without sacrificing performance or energy efficiency.
  •  Real-time energy consumption monitoring and appliance management capabilities to optimize energy usage.

Builders can meet the team and explore the EcoBalance ecosystem at the International Builders Show (IBS) Booth W2800.
