LOUISVILLE, Ky. – June 26, 2025 – GE Appliances, a Haier company, today released its 2024 Economic Impact Report, underscoring the powerful role it plays in strengthening the economic and social fabric of Georgia. GE Appliances’ footprint in Georgia, which includes 2,650 employees across its Roper Corporation Manufacturing plant in Walker County, an Appliance Smart Distribution Center in Jackson County and Southern Logistics Center in Murray County, contributed $3 billion annually to the state’s GDP and helped generate $115 million in state and local taxes.
The company’s operations, suppliers, and workforce have created a powerful ripple effect across Georgia’s economy, supporting thousands of families and businesses. Beyond its employees, GE Appliances has also fueled an additional 7,500 jobs through its operations and local supplier network. The company’s investments also drove $235 million in spending with 359 Georgia-based suppliers.
Since 1973, the Roper Corporation plant has served as a manufacturing anchor in LaFayette and Walker County. Key highlights include:
- More than $180 million in capital investments at the company’s Roper Corporation facility in Walker County since 2023.
- $60 million dedicated to new equipment, expanded capacity and new product innovations, such as GE Appliances’ latest affordable induction range.
“GE Appliances investments in Roper Corporation continue to earn the plant local, national, and industry recognition,” said Luther Ingram, president and executive director of Roper Corporation. “When the spotlight is on us here in North Georgia, the world sees our innovation in world-class cooking products, automation, and workforce development.”
Community Partnership and Innovative Workforce Practice
- New in 2025, the company awarded its first Roper Corporation Scholarships to students at Georgia Northwestern Technical College’s Walker County Campus, supporting local workforce development.
- GE Appliances is also leading automation initiatives at the Roper plant, including the creation of the Robot Wrangler role—an innovative position that maintains mobile robots using vision and lidar systems to streamline production, enhance safety, and shift employees into higher-value tasks.
- Tapping into new labor pools, Roper has also expanded flexible shift scheduling through the app MyWorkChoice, giving working parents and retirees access to part-time manufacturing jobs. More than 1,500 people now fill the equivalent of 200 full-time positions daily.
GE Appliances’ 2024 Economic Impact Report also highlights the company’s national footprint, which drives the creation of more than 98,000 jobs across the U.S., spanning sectors from steel production and transportation to retail and healthcare
