LOS ANGELES, Calif., March 29, 2023 – IoT Breakthrough, a leading market intelligence organization that recognizes the top companies, technologies and products in the global Internet-of-Things (IoT) market, today announced that GE Appliances (GEA), a Haier company, has been selected as winner of the “Smart Appliance Company Of The Year” award for the fifth time in the 7th annual IoT Breakthrough Awards program.

In 2022, GE Appliances was a founding member of the Home Connectivity Alliance, whose mission is to provide consumers with more options within a safe, secure and interoperable connected home ecosystem.

Additionally, GEA continued to introduce breakthrough products and solutions in the smart kitchen and laundry space, including:

  • Last June, GEA launched the GE Profile Top Load 900 series with Alexa. As the first-ever washer with a built-in Alexa, users can optimize their wash cycles and eliminate the guesswork of cleaning hard-to-wash fabrics or difficult stains. The washer recognizes thousands of voice command combinations for specific fabrics (e.g., Hey Alexa, wash my cashmere!) and stains (e.g., chocolate bar, deodorant or pinot noir) and automatically adjusts washer settings to provide a wash tailored to the request.
  • The Café™ Couture™ Countertop Oven with Air Fry is the latest product introduction that allows consumers to use the SmartHQ app to start and program recipes remotely from anywhere - their desk, the couch or their car.
  • Building on the momentum of the Air Fry and Turkey Mode over-the-air (OTA) releases in 2021, GEA rolled out its latest OTA upgrade, Steakhouse Mode, in 2022 to over 160,000 and 120 models. In partnership with Omaha Steaks, the mode enables users to cook a restaurant-quality steak in their oven with no previous steak know-how.
  • GE Appliances is also the first US appliance manufacturer to leverage AI to automate cooking in its ovens using computer vision. GEA engineers and food scientists developed the first AI Cooking for full-size ovens based on thousands of hours of testing and pizzas cooked. Using our industry-exclusive CookCam™, a pilot test group cooked their favorite frozen pizzas with AI Machine Learning in their wall ovens in 2022.
  • In addition to adding new cycles and features, GEA released over two-dozen software enhancements across its portfolio including integrations with Unsplash, NASA and Twitter.
  • Finally, several software enhancements were made to the SmartHQ Pro platform, including real-time reporting, alerts and notifications that prevent service calls and further enable property managers and operators to remotely monitor and control a broad range of GEA products.

“We are deeply honored to receive this recognition for the fifth straight year. We are so pleased to lead the way in smart home leadership. We will continue to make significant investments in our owner-centric secure and open ecosystem, which includes over one-thousand models that can connect across all GEA brands,” said Shawn Stover, executive director of SmartHome Solutions for GE Appliances. “The next year will see further expansion our smart home ecosystem while also aggressively growing our smart appliance initiative to make every appliance smart - big and small.”

The mission of the IoT Breakthrough Awards program is to recognize the innovators, leaders and visionaries from around the globe in a range of IoT categories, including Industrial and Enterprise IoT, Smart City technology, Connected Home and Home Automation, Connected Car, and many more. This year’s program attracted more than 4,000 nominations from companies all over the world.
