More than ever, people are relying on their washers and dryers for clean laundry. That’s especially true at The Salvation Army in Louisville, Ky., where the organization is working to meet the needs of the unsheltered population affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Salvation Army recently opened the Joy Center to house community members who don’t have a place of their own to self-isolate or practice social distancing.
To support the increase in laundry needs at the facility, GE Appliances provided them with new washers and dryers.
“It saved us when we were at a stopping point and we didn’t know which way to go because we couldn’t get the services done,” said Maj. Roy Williams, area commander with The Salvation Army. “We launder every sheet, every pillowcase, every blanket, every day. GE Appliances has taken a heavy load off of my staff with what they’ve done for us.”
The shelter will remain open as long as there is a need.
